This report describes the activities of Wikimedia District of Columbia from July 1, 2013 through September 30, 2013.

Program events

Luce and Lunder Edit-a-Thon

On July 19, Wikimedia DC and the Smithsonian American Art Museum held the Luce and Lunder Edit-a-Thon, part of an ongoing series of events to create and improve Wikipedia content about American art and artists. The event included a workshop for new editors, as well as behind-the-scenes tours of the Luce Foundation Center for American Art and the Lunder Conservation Center led by Luce Center Coordinator Bridget Callahan and Programs Coordinator Chris Wayner. Notable guests at the edit-a-thon included G. Wayne Clough, the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution.

Specific outcomes of the edit-a-thon included the creation of 15 new articles, 3 of which were subsequently featured in the "Did you know" section of the English Wikipedia's main page, as well as various improvements made to 13 additional articles.

EHA, Economic History, and Wikipedia

On September 20, Wikimedia DC held a presentation at the annual meeting of the Economic History Association to explain Wikimedia projects, notably including Wikisource, and invite the members of the Association to improve economic history content online and to use Wikimedia in classwork.

Wiki Loves Monuments USA 2013

As part of the world-wide Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 contest, Wikimedia DC hosted two photo expeditions, covering Baltimore and Richmond, on September 21. Wikimedia DC was also responsible for providing the infrastructure for the entire United States portion of the contest, including hosting the associated websites and managing the jury and award process.

Social events

Wikimedia DC continued its WikiSalon program, holding events on July 24, August 21, September 5, and September 26. Wikimedia DC also held three social dinner meetups, on July 13, August 24, and September 14.

Organizational development

During the period between July and September, inclusive, the membership of Wikimedia DC increased from 57 members to 61 members, corresponding to an aggregate growth of 7%.
