The National Agricultural Library(NAL), one of the world's largest agricultural research libraries, was established as part of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in 1862, by Abraham Lincoln. In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson authorized an appropriation which enabled the Library to move and build a new 14-story building on site at the Henry A. |description = Join the American Folklife Center on February 8th for a Edit-A-Thon to expand the online presence of women who documented the world. This event is part of its multi-year initiative to highlight, explore, and celebrate the contributions of women as ethnographic fieldworkers and scholars and call attention to the instrumental role of women in establishing many of the seminal collections that now enrich the AFC archive and ethnographic archives throughout the world. During the Edit-A-Thon, we plan to add and/or expand entries for approximately 25-30 women, both historic and contemporary, who documented traditional culture. We will focus of those whose collections are now housed in the AFC archive. Activities will be centered at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, but off-site participation is encouraged. AFC staff will be on hand to assist on-site and off-site researchers and provide archival materials.
