|description = Save the date for a virtual edit-a-thon on Women in Finance on Thursday, October 29th from 1:00-3:00pm EST where we will highlight women who have been trailblazers in finance, business, and entrepreneurship. The histories of women in these spaces is not well documented online, but they deserve to be told. Dr. Crystal M. Moten, curator of African American history in the division of Work and History at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, will speak about her work and the importance of telling her stories at the edit-a-thon.

Wikipedia is an openly editable resource, meaning that you can improve the quality and accuracy of Wikipedia articles. As one of the web’s most visited reference sites, Wikipedia serves as a starting point for many individuals looking to learn about art, history, and science. Content on Wikipedia is not even, currently only 18% of biographies are about women. Help us correct that imbalance by editing articles about women on Wikipedia.

|description = One of the primary ways someone can quickly learn about art and artists is through Wikipedia. Our Edit-a-Thon will focus on improving or creating articles about contemporary artists with ties to the DMV area, particularly those about non-men and artists of color. This workshop will help students develop contact with their own art communities, writing skills, and a knowledge of Wikipedia policies.

|description = Join us for a virtual Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon that helps to highlight more artists and stories like those featured in the Smithsonian American Art Museum's landmark exhibition ¡Printing the Revolution! The Rise and Impact of Chicano Graphics, 1965 to Now. The exhibition brings together five decades of innovative printmaking by Chicano artists to explore the social justice-rooted artistic tradition and its contemporary legacy. Many of the featured artists came of age during the civil rights era and channeled the period's social activism into assertive aesthetic statements that announced a new political and cultural consciousness among people of Mexican descent in the United States. Learn how to edit and create new Wikipedia articles in this online editing workshop and work to amplify and expand on articles about Chicanx women and LGBTQ+ artists. All levels of technological proficiency welcome.

In 1838, Jesuit priests sold 272 enslaved people who worked on Jesuit plantations in Southern Maryland. Proceeds from the sale were used to pay a portion of Georgetown University's debts. The Georgetown Slavery Archive was established in 2016 to maintain and share materials related to slavery and the 1838 sale. We will use these materials to edit and create relevant Wikipedia articles. New editors are welcome. Training will be provided.

|description = Wikimedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity, however, is not. Content is skewed by the lack of female participation. This represents an alarming absence in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge.

Let’s change that. Join us for a communal updating of Wikipedia entries on subjects related to art and feminism.
