|description = '''This event is presented by 500 Women Scientists DC'''. Ada Lovelace Day is an international day to celebrate the contributions of self-identifying women to science, technology, engineering, and math. So to celebrate their achievements, 500 Women Scientists and our allies, as well as the DC Science Writer's Association, are gathering at the West End DC Public Library on Saturday, October 13th to share their work on Wikipedia's pages.

While Wikipedia is the fifth most popular website in the world, notching up more than 32 million views a day, less than 18% of its English-language biographies are about women. So in honor of Ada Lovelace—and her contributions to mathematics and computing—we'll work to add more entries to Wikipedia and give you the tools to keep making the Internet less sexist after our Wiki-thon. All you have to do is come armed with a laptop or tablet!

|description = Save the date for a virtual edit-a-thon on Women in Finance on Thursday, October 29th from 1:00-3:00pm EST where we will highlight women who have been trailblazers in finance, business, and entrepreneurship. The histories of women in these spaces is not well documented online, but they deserve to be told. Dr. Crystal M. Moten, curator of African American history in the division of Work and History at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, will speak about her work and the importance of telling her stories at the edit-a-thon.
Dr. Hester Baer will discuss the importance of editing Wikipedia from a feminist perspective, while Ariel Cetrone of Wikimedia DC will discuss the role that edit-a-thons play in achieving equality of representation through engaging with online resources and having a say in how the world’s largest free online encyclopedia is written.

  +
During this training, attendees of all experience levels will learn the basics of how to edit Wikipedia by updating articles related to the history of women in finance and business in the United States. Ariel Cetrone, Wikimedia DC, will lead the Wikipedia tutorial and beginners are welcome. Zoom link will be sent upon registration.
No Wikipedia editing experience is necessary. Training will be provided.

Wikipedia is an openly editable resource, meaning that you can improve the quality and accuracy of Wikipedia articles. As one of the web’s most visited reference sites, Wikipedia serves as a starting point for many individuals looking to learn about art, history, and science. Content on Wikipedia is not even, currently only 18% of biographies are about women. Help us correct that imbalance by editing articles about women on Wikipedia.
Laptops are required. Please bring your own. Wikimedia has two laptops to loan. Reserve one by emailing info@wikimediadc.org.

  +
This event is collaboratively planned by the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative, a multiyear undertaking to document, research, collect, display, and share the history of women in the United States and Wikimedia DC, the regional outreach organization for the Wikimedia projects.
Dinner will be provided.

  +
The Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative strives to provide programs that are accessible to all visitors. For questions, or to request accommodations such as an ASL interpreter or captioning, please email BecauseOfHerStory@si.edu.

|title = Evans-Tibbs Archive of African American Art Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

|time = 10:30 AM – 4 PM

|place ='''National Gallery of Art'''

|address = 4th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20565

|description = Join us at the National Gallery of Art Library and help to improve and create Wikipedia articles about African American art and artists.

This Wikipedia Edit-a-thon accompanies the exhibition, In the Library: The Evans-Tibbs Archive of African American Art, which showcases the life and work of Thurlow Evans Tibbs Jr., an accomplished art appraiser, broker, collector, and dealer, as well as the founder and director of his eponymous art gallery in Washington, DC. Tibbs is best known for his donation to the Corcoran Gallery of Art, now an important part of the National Gallery’s holdings by African American artists. To support his research, Tibbs amassed approximately more than a thousand reference files comprising more than seventy boxes of material documenting art of the African diaspora. Tibbs opened up his reference collection, now commonly known as the Evans-Tibbs Archive, to artists, students, and scholars. The archive includes correspondence, exhibition pamphlets, gallery records, photographs, and other ephemera that illustrate the history of the Tibbs family, The Evans-Tibbs Collection, and African American art.

No Wikipedia editing experience is necessary; training will be provided. Reference materials from the library’s collection and the Evans-Tibbs Archive will be readily available.

Lunch will be provided. If you have dietary restrictions, please email library@nga.gov.

|description = Wikimedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity, however, is not. Content is skewed by the lack of female participation. This represents an alarming absence in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge.

Let’s change that. Join us for a communal updating of Wikipedia entries on subjects related to art and feminism. We will provide tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, as well as reference materials, coffee and lunch. Bring your laptop, power cord and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. People of all gender identities and expressions are invited to participate.

|description = Join us at the National Agriculture Library to help celebrate our 50th Anniversary in Beltsville and help to improve or create Wikipedia articles about the National Agricultural Library's history, as well as ARS/USDA history.

The National Agricultural Library(NAL), one of the world's largest agricultural research libraries, was established as part of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in 1862, by Abraham Lincoln. The library was originally located at the headquarters building of the USDA until centralization of the library, and it's vast collections outgrew the Washington D.C. space. In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson authorized an appropriation which enabled the Library to move and build a new 14-story building on site at the Henry A. Wallace Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC) in Beltsville,MD.

The National Agricultural Library invites Wikipedians of all levels of experience to participate in this edit-a-thon. Topics will include past librarians, USDA research discoveries and developments, the evolution of technology in conjunction with libraries, and highlights of notable research and research contributions represented within the library's special collections and stacks holdings.

During the event individuals will be able to hear from and meet influential historians within the USDA, librarians, and data science experts. They will also have the opportunity to learn more about resources available through ARS and the National Agricultural Library.

We will focus of those whose collections are now housed in the AFC archive. Activities will be centered at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, but off-site participation is encouraged. |description = Join us for a virtual Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon that helps to highlight more artists and stories like those featured in the Smithsonian American Art Museum's landmark exhibition ¡Printing the Revolution! The Rise and Impact of Chicano Graphics, 1965 to Now. The exhibition brings together five decades of innovative printmaking by Chicano artists to explore the social justice-rooted artistic tradition and its contemporary legacy. Many of the featured artists came of age during the civil rights era and channeled the period's social activism into assertive aesthetic statements that announced a new political and cultural consciousness among people of Mexican descent in the United States. Learn how to edit and create new Wikipedia articles in this online editing workshop and work to amplify and expand on articles about Chicanx women and LGBTQ+ artists. All levels of technological proficiency welcome.
