Background<br />
<br />
Wikimedia District of Columbia is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC. We are the regional outreach organization for Wikipedia and the other projects of the Wikimedia Foundation, including Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons. Our mission is to promote participation on Wikimedia projects in the Washington, DC area and throughout the United States.<br />

Our work is supported by a core of dedicated, knowledgeable, enthusiastic volunteers. These volunteers are responsible for, among other duties, (1) organizing Wikipedia training and outreach events with our network of institutional partners in the Washington, DC area; (2) conducting Wikipedia trainings; (3) providing hands-on assistance at events; (4) maintaining Wikimedia DC’s technical infrastructure. As Wikimedia District of Columbia’s activities grow, the need for volunteer support is greater. Our goal is to develop strategies for better supporting our current base of volunteers while recruiting and training new volunteers. <br />

Responsibilities<br />
<br />
The Volunteer Coordinator will work with the President, Board of Directors, and volunteers of Wikimedia District of Columbia to develop our practices around volunteer management and development, including identification, recruitment, training, and support. As a temporary consultant, the role focuses primarily on defining practices and success criteria for Wikimedia District of Columbia to adopt.<br />

Requirements<br />
<br />
*Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience<br />
*At least two years of experience in volunteer management<br />
*Basic computer skills<br />
*Ability to work with little direct oversight<br />
*Experience in the cultural or academic sectors a plus.<br />
