This report describes the activities of Wikimedia District of Columbia from July 1, 2015 through September 30, 2015.
Programs and events
Wikimedia DC held four editing events this quarter:
- A Women in Arts and Tech edit-a-thon with Tech LadyMafia on July 25;
- A Women in Video and Film edit-a-thon with the Women in Film and Video Archives on August 15;
- The second annual Wikipedia APA edit-a-thon with the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center on September 4; and
- The Brookland Neighborhood edit-a-thon with Catholic University on September 16.
A total of 39 people participated in these events, including four people who participated in two or more events this quarter. Of the 39 participants, 19 were newcomers at Wikimedia DC events. The participants made 265 edits to 74 articles, corresponding to 167,742 bytes of content added or removed, and uploaded 3 files to Wikimedia Commons.
Wikimedia DC held its monthly WikiSalons on August 12 and September 9, and its monthly dinner meetups on July 25, August 29, and September 26.
Grantmaking
During the quarter, Wikimedia DC received one grant application for a total amount of $150.00, and awarded one grant for the sum of $82.36 as a result. The grant was used to fund an edit-a-thon on women in architecture in Philadelphia, hosted in partnership with the Guggenheim Foundation. Ten people participated at this event, and six articles were improved.
Operations and governance
The Board of Directors held one meeting during the quarter, on August 9. At the meeting, the Board recommended two amendments to the Bylaws: one to adjust the composition of the Board from seven elected seats to six elected seats and three appointed seats, and one to allow the revocation of membership under certain circumstances. These amendments were subsequently approved by Wikimedia DC's membership via ballot.
