The following comprises the hiring policy of Wikimedia District of Columbia (Wikimedia DC), adopted _______________.
1. Scope. This policy details the hiring practices for all employee positions and independent contractors who will be receiving compensation from Wikimedia DC. It also covers unpaid and volunteer positions, such as unpaid internships, recruited for completing specific duties within a defined period of time. It does not cover eligibility for Board of Directors and Officer positions, Board of Directors committee assignments, or appointed positions, which are governed under separate policies and resolutions.
2. Employment by Merit. Employment at Wikimedia DC is based wholly on qualifications, competence, experience, training and fitness for the job. Because of the importance of our work in serving the community, we make every effort to fill vacancies in accordance with the above stipulations.
3. Non-discrimination. Wikimedia DC prohibits discrimination against current or prospective users and employees on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, sexual identity, or any other legally protected characteristics. Wikimedia DC's policy of non-discrimination and is based on a commitment to the principle of equal opportunity, which extends to all aspects of employee relations, including employment, salary administration, employee development, promotion, and transfer.
4. Job Openings and Recruitment. When a job is available at Wikimedia District of Columbia, the President is responsible for seeing that all staff members are informed about the opening. Recruitment, screening, and selection will normally be done by the President, assisted by members of the senior staff. At the discretion of the President, members of the Board may be invited to participate in screening, interviewing and selection.
