The following comprises the hiring policy of Wikimedia District of Columbia (Wikimedia DC), adopted _______________.

1. Scope. This policy details the hiring practices for all employee positions and independent contractors who will be receiving compensation from Wikimedia DC. It also covers unpaid and volunteer positions, such as unpaid internships, recruited for completing specific duties within a defined period of time. It does not cover eligibility for Board of Directors and Officer positions, Board of Directors committee assignments, or appointed positions, which are governed under separate policies and resolutions.

5. New Hires. At the time of employment each person will receive a confirmation of employment letter which outlines job title, salary, and any additional compensation and benefits. Further, each person will receive a copy of the job description and applicable personnel policies. Each person will also be informed of his or her work hours.

6. Unpaid positions and internships. All policies governing hiring and recruitment of paid staff apply to recruitment of unpaid and volunteer positions. Wikimedia DC is fully committed to fair and professional treatment of all its staff members, including unpaid staff and volunteers. In the event that Wikimedia District of Columbia hires individuals for unpaid internships and other unpaid positions, it shall be the policy of Wikimedia DC to treat all unpaid staff with the same professional courtesies extended to paid individuals.

7. Compliance with Law. Nothing in this document is intended to contravene or circumvent any relevant employment-related law. It is the intention and goal of Wikimedia District of Columbia at all times to comply with any such applicable laws.
