I humbly seek the members' support in re-electing me to the Board of Directors. I helped found the organization in 2011, and while serving I aided in the writing of grant applications and in organizing the Wikimania 2012 conference, which was attended by 1,400 people. Additionally, over this past summer I volunteered at the Wikimedia DC office on K Street, helping the Wikimedia DC intern in her work. If re-elected to the Board, my goal for the next two years is to improve our fundraising and strengthen our relationships with cultural institutions and the wider DC community.

	I have been a member of the Wikimedia Foundation's volunteer response team since 2009, though I have not served actively as a member since 2010 except in responding to Wikimania-related inquiries on behalf of Wikimedia DC.

I have participated on Wikimedia projects with the username "Messedrocker" from 2004 to 2009 and with the username "Harej" since 2009. Note that on some Wikimedia projects, my username is still listed as "Messedrocker". I am currently an administrator on the English Wikipedia, and formerly on English Wikinews and Wikimedia Commons. I was briefly blocked on English Wikinews in June of 2010 due to a conflict involving some particular stubbornness and rage on my part, which was quite foolish in retrospect. Other than that, I have not been subject to sanctions on Wikimedia projects.

Greetings to my fellow DC Wikipedians!

I am (User:Djembayz), a founding member of Wikimedia DC, and I've been contributing to English Wikipedia since 2010. I attend most local edit-a-thons and meetups, and have been an active participant in Wikimania 2012.

If re-elected, my first priority will be outreach-- regular sociable meetings to expand our membership by getting together to hear a speaker, attend an event, edit, scan, upload, go on photo hunts, etc.

WikiDC has all those photos at the National Archives at our disposal to scan, and many other cultural organizations who would be happy to have us train them to edit, do presentations, and help digitize. We already have active collaborations with the Smithsonian and several local universities. In short, we are blessed to live in an area with wonderful opportunities for as many Wikipedians as we can provide ... so it's time to get more folks up and running.

As an active editor, I enjoy adding categories and photos to Wikimedia Commons, editing articles about old sailing ships and Native American languages, and adding infoboxes and footnotes.

Over the past two years, I've been to GLAMCamp and an ExtravaSCANZA at the National Archives, meetups in DC and Baltimore, helped get a Wikipedia Blind Book Club going at DC Public Library, given a talk about Wikipedia at Catholic University, and started a Wikipedia Lunch group where I work. This January I taught my first Wikipedia Workshops at Missoula Public Library and the University of Montana.

Representing the Chapter at the Berlin Conference was my first experience with the international membership of the Wikipedia movement. Speaking Spanish and German turned out to be very useful at this meeting, and I am interested in helping develop more collaboration with non-English Wikipedias. In the long term, I would like to start attending some of the Spanish- and German-speaking meetings of Wikipedians, to improve communication and collaboration between the US, European, and Latin American chapters.

It has been an honor to serve on your Board of Directors over the past year, and great fun, too. I hope you will return me to office so that we can continue with the momentum we have generated, get more of this wonderful cultural treasure we have in Washington out to the world, and have a good time as we do it!

	My primary participation has been on English and Cheyenne Wikipedias, and on Wikimedia Commons. I have not been subject to any disciplinary action.

Peter Meyer

I want to support cooperative links between the Wikimedia movement, academic research, and government agencies.

• I'm keeping track of government wikis with broad audiences, and on government rules regarding edits to outside sites. Outside of the GLAM context we do not have many active partnerships with federal agencies, and if we can find open doors, I am looking to create more such partnerships. There are many specialists in the government who can help our open content.
• I support, attend, and will host edit-a-thons with professional groups.
• Each year I attend WikiSym (a symposium on wikis with presenters from many academic fields), Wikimania, and several academic conferences in social science fields and the history of technology. I can represent Wiki-DC at some of these conferences and report back to the membership on the great analytical work that is going on.
• I'd like to support editing in languages other than English, ideally with a special edit-a-thon if we can find a supportive partner institution.
• I think the chapter is running well. Some aspects of what the chapter does are not clear to new attendees at its meetings, and I will put clarifying information on the Wiki-DC wiki when I can.

My background: I have a college degree from Harvard College in Applied Mathematics, a PhD in Economics from Northwestern University. I worked as a software developer at Symantec for some years then went to graduate school and now I am a research economist at a federal agency. My research is mainly on technological change, specifically on how new inventions and industries arise. Information-sharing institutions like wikis, conferences, journals, and clubs help these things happen.

I do have minor "conflicts of duty" that could arise occasionally. My employer is a federal statistical agency whose rules regarding activities in outside organizations may require me to avoid taking public stands on legislation or candidates. I will follow those rules and norms. This won't affect my role in most activities of Wikimedia-DC. Also I help run, speak about, and advocate for internal federal government wikis and for government staff to participate directly in the Wikimedia projects. I cannot see how this would create a conflict with Wikimedia-DC; it should help.
