This report describes the activities of Wikimedia District of Columbia from January 1, 2014 through March 31, 2014.

Content programs


  • February 25 nara scan-a-thon (with Andrew's class)

  • Some of us attended the Art Bytes Hack-a-thon at Walters on January 24–26

Mid-year assessment

How much progress have we made on our goals?

  • Edit-a-thons with eight institutions (4 so far: Laurel Historical Society, American Statistical Association, NMWA, Smithsonian)
    • Including at least two new institutions (Laurel, American Statistical Association, NMWA)
    • One edit-a-thon in NARA's innovation hub (Not yet)
  • Six events with Smithsonian (3 so far: AAPG Library, SAAM, SIA)
  • At least 50 volunteers (We hit 75 on March 30, 2014)
    • Logging at least 700 volunteer-hours (470 hours so far)
    • and creating/improving at least 175 articles (131 articles so far)
  • Two scanathons at National Archives (We held 1)
    • at least 50 digitized documents (No hard data yet but we believe we hit 100 scans)
  • Three hackathons (We held one)
    • Completion of at least two technical projects (We *started* at least 2 technical projects)
  • Stable set of analytics tools (Not yet)
  • Two social events per month (We held 7 from October 1 through March 31, so we're only doing 1/month)
  • Four flagship events (2 so far: Annual Meeting, WLM Exhibition)
  • Seeking WMF grants (Done)
  • Seeking event sponsorships (Developing a plan)
  • Seeking small donations (We continue to receive member donations)
  • Modifications to advisory committee structure (Done)
  • Partnership coordinators (Not yet)
