As part of the Wikimania 2012 conference, attendees are invited to join OpenStreetMap mappers, Wikimedians and other locals for a mapping party at the Congressional Cemetery. The cemetery is just an empty green blob in OpenStreetMap, but it's rich in history and monuments, and numerous politicians and notable people are buried there. The cemetery is also part of a pilot program that provides QR codes linked to Wikipedia articles about these people—and we need a nice map to go with the QR codes!

The Wikimania WikiExpedition, part of the Wikimania 2012 Unconference, is a one-day photography event based on photographing certain targets (such as buildings, sites, train stations, and so forth) that are devoid of pictures on Wikimedia Commons or various Wikimedia projects. WikiExpedition gets volunteers with cameras associated with a list of objectives in 22 central regions/counties throughout Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington DC. The 22 regions are each given certain amounts of points per target, and in competition style, the team with the most points will win the contest and receive prizes.

Drawing from their vast vaults of art, the American Art Museum care takers have meticulously drawn forth canvas jewels to export into Commons and into Wikipedia articles.
