==The process==

Wikimedia DC encourages applications from anywhere in the United States for any activity which promotes our organization's mission to develop and disseminate free content. This can include anything from a library workshop to a photo expedition or even a small conference. For the month of September 2012, we are prioritizing applications for activities that promote '''Wiki Loves Monuments'''. The maximum amount that can be requested in a single application is $2,500.

Wikimedia DC provides small grants to individuals, community groups, and nonprofit organizations to fund activities that align with our mission to advance general knowledge and collect, develop, and disseminate educational content under a free license or in the public domain. Activities for which grants are available can include anything from a library workshop or photo expedition to a small conference.
For a microgrant request to be considered, it must be submitted through our website for discussion and review. After a comment period of about 15 days, the Grants Committee will make a decision on your application. Once your application is approved, you will either receive a cash advance or a form to apply for reimbursement once your event is carried out. Excess funds must be returned to Wikimedia DC.

Need funding for an activity that promotes free knowledge?
Wikimedia DC can help!

We encourage applications from anywhere in the United States, or even elsewhere in the world. There are no deadlines; grant applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

The application process is simple, and anyone can apply!

To apply for a grant, please post an application using the form below. Your application must include the following information:

  • The full legal name of the person or organization requesting the grant;
  • The amount of grant funding requested; and
  • A description of the purpose of the grant.

Once your application is posted, it will be reviewed by our Grants Committee, who will make a determination regarding your application within 15 days. After your application is approved, you will receive either a cash advance or a form to apply for reimbursement once your activity is complete.

The maximum amount that can be requested in a single application is $2,500. Any unspent funds must be returned to Wikimedia DC. For-profit entities are not eligible to receive grants under this program. Please see the Grants Policy for a full list of applicable terms and conditions.
