1. <u>Scope</u>. This policy details the hiring practices for all employee positions and independent contractors who will be receiving compensation from Wikimedia District of Columbia.
 
 
2. <u>Employment by Merit</u>. Employment at Wikimedia District of Columbia is based wholly on qualifications, competence, experience, training and fitness for the job. Because of the importance of our work in serving the community, we make every effort to fill vacancies in accordance with the above stipulations.
 
 
3. <u>Non-discrimination</u>. Wikimedia District of Columbia will not discriminate against any employee or applicant on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, physical or mental handicap, political belief, marital status, age, sexual orientation, sexual identity, or status as a veteran.
 
 
4. <u>Job Openings and Recruitment</u>. When a job is available at Wikimedia District of Columbia, the President is responsible for seeing that all staff members are informed about the opening. Recruitment, screening, and selection will normally be done by the Director, assisted by members of the senior staff. At the discretion of the Director, members of the Board may be invited to participate in screening, interviewing and selection.
 
 
5. <u>New Hires</u>. At the time of employment each person will receive a confirmation of employment letter which outlines job title, salary, and any additional compensation and benefits. Further, each person will receive a copy of the job description and applicable personnel policies. Each person will also be informed of his or her work hours.
