+ | |description = Wikipedia is one of the most highly visited websites in the world, but representation of women of color is strikingly low—both in terms of who contributes to the site and the subjects they write about. Many local and national environmental justice women activists are not represented among Wikipedia's many biographies. |
||
− | |description = "The Civil War and American Art" is part of a series of edit-a-thons organized by the Smithsonian American Art Museum to add and expand articles about American art and artists on Wikipedia. Please join us for an all-day event that will include new editor training, a special tour with the curator of the ''Civil War and American Art'' exhibition at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and an edit-a-thon. |

They concern moderation of content by online platforms as governed by Section 230. The cases will be heard from 10 AM to noon, one hour each. We believe that we can hear a bit of the session if we line up very early. If you can be in line by 5:30am please join us. Wikipedia is one of the most highly visited websites in the world, but representation of women of color is strikingly low—both in terms of who contributes to the site and the subjects they write about. Many local and national environmental justice women activists are not represented among Wikipedia's many biographies.
Join us to set the record straight, make some friends, and celebrate the activists who have fought to make our urban environments greener. No Wikipedia editing experience necessary; training will be provided.
This event is planned in coordination with our friends at Wikimedia DC.

Join the Georgetown community to help close this gender gap on Wikipedia by increasing the representation of underrepresented groups — in both Wikipedia content and contributors — on topics such as women in politics, women in STEM, and women in the arts. There will be hands-on training provided by representatives from Wikimedia DC.
No Wikipedia editing experience necessary.
Bring your own laptop. Snacks will be provided.
