+ | |description = Wikipedia is one of the most highly visited websites in the world, but representation of women of color is strikingly low—both in terms of who contributes to the site and the subjects they write about. Many local and national environmental justice women activists are not represented among Wikipedia's many biographies. |

− | |description = Come join us in an exciting Wikipedia edit-a-thon event! We will be gathering to edit Wikipedia content related to the subject of Human Origins and the Smithsonian's research and initiatives in this field. The event will begin with a private, before-hours tour of the Smithsonian's Hall of Human Origins. We will then do a brief tutorial on how to edit and create content on Wikipedia for new editors, before diving into the editing! |

They concern moderation of content by online platforms as governed by Section 230. The cases will be heard from 10 AM to noon, one hour each. It'll be cold and there are no easily available bathrooms so ... prepare as well as possible. |

Wikipedia Edit-a-thon: Women in Environmental Justice
WHEN

Wikipedia is one of the most highly visited websites in the world, but representation of women of color is strikingly low—both in terms of who contributes to the site and the subjects they write about. Many local and national environmental justice women activists are not represented among Wikipedia's many biographies.
Join us to set the record straight, make some friends, and celebrate the activists who have fought to make our urban environments greener. No Wikipedia editing experience necessary; training will be provided.
This event is planned in coordination with our friends at Wikimedia DC.

Wikimedia DC will join WMF Policy experts on an expedition to see the Supreme Court hearing of Moody v. NetChoice, LLC and NetChoice v. Paxton cases. They concern moderation of content by online platforms as governed by Section 230. The cases will be heard from 10 AM to noon, one hour each. We believe that we can hear a bit of the session if we line up very early. If you can be in line by 5:30am please join us. It'll be cold and there are no easily available bathrooms so ... prepare as well as possible. Learn more »

Georgetown University Women’s History Month Wikipedia Edit-a-thon
WHEN
- Friday, March 15, 2024
1:30 PM – 4:30 PM
WHERE
- Georgetown University
The theme for Women’s History Month this year at Georgetown University is “It’s all the Rage,” where we will engage feminist rage and emotion from intersectional lenses.
Did you know that only 15% of contributors to Wikipedia are women? Did you know that women only appear in just over 20% of all images of human beings on Wikimedia Commons? Did you know efforts are happening around the world to address the “gender gap” on Wikipedia?
Join the Georgetown community to help close this gender gap on Wikipedia by increasing the representation of underrepresented groups — in both Wikipedia content and contributors — on topics such as women in politics, women in STEM, and women in the arts. There will be hands-on training provided by representatives from Wikimedia DC.
No Wikipedia editing experience necessary.
Bring your own laptop. Snacks will be provided.
This event is open to Georgetown Students, Staff, Faculty, and Alumni. Learn more »
