Description of purpose
Please tell us a little about the project or activity for which you are requesting funding. Please provide enough detail to allow us to evaluate how your request aligns with our charitable mission.
- (5) What is the purpose for which the funding will be used?
- The Smithsonian is coordinating events throughout March to invite women of color in to learn more about careers available in museums, libraries, and archives. To this end, on March 19th, 2016, SIA is partnering with the Smithsonian's Asian Pacific American Center, Latino Center, National African American History and Culture Museum, and National Museum of American Indian to host a Wikipedia edit-a-thon to give women minorities experience with editing Wikipedia, and additionally, increase representation of significant women of color on Wikipedia.
- (6) How does this purpose align with our mission?
- This event compliments Wikimedia DC's efforts to collaborate with cultural institutions to promote free knowledge and support digitization and open access projects. It also contributes to Wikipedia's larger goal of increasing female editors and representation on Wikipedia.
